Companion Dog Training: (8 weeks)
Vaccinations must be kept up to date for the duration of the course. Vaccination certificate must be shown at first class.

Pet manners topics covered
This course revises and extends the topics of the Junior / adolescent course.
New topics covered
- Loose lead walking at slow and fast paces
- Road walk including walking, turning, stopping at kerb and crossing road
- Leave distractions
- Playing and stopping playing
- Vehicle manners (jump in and out on cue, travels quietly accepts seat-belt or enclosure, with distractions)
- Be examined by a stranger
- Meet and greet dog quiet, relaxed and controlled as the handler holds a conversation for 60 seconds
- Food manners - no begging if someone eats near the dog able to leave food on ground - dog waits for 3-5 seconds before cue to begin eating.
- On and off-lead - recall to their handler's side.
- Off-lead - walk at handler’s side for 30 paces with changes of direction.
- Down stay for two minutes (handler out of sight).
- Continue walking at their handler's side even when another dog and handler walk past them.
- Stay down in place for 2 minutes in at 10 paces and out of sight 30 seconds.
- Send from 10 paces to bed or mat
- Emergency stop from 10 paces away
- Relaxed isolation for 2-5 minutes
Activities Tricks and Games
Tricks
Many tricks are common to many or all canine games and can also used as a fun way to interact and bond with your dog. Tricks also help family members who are 'not sure about dogs' to enjoy the fun.
Introduction to the following activities or games for fun or competition:
- Rally-O (Rally Obedience)
- Heel work to Music
- Treibball
- Helper Dog
- Scentwork
- Basic assistant dog tasks
This course provides the ground work for the advanced class.
